7 Days Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari is designed for travellers who wish to increase their time in Tanzania’s two most famous wildlife destinations: the boundless plains of Serengeti national park and the dense concentration of Ngorongoro crater. This seven-day safari allows for deep exploration, increasing wildlife viewing opportunities in the heart of the great Migration ecosystem.

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha and Flight to Serengeti National Park.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), on the first day of the safari, you will be met by your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris and be transferred to Arusha Airport (ARK). From there, you will take a scheduled domestic flight directly into Serengeti national park, you will then be landing at Seronera Airstrip (central) or a seasonal airstrip (north or south, depending on the migration path). Flying saves over 6 hours of driving and offers stunning aerial views. Upon landing, your safari guide will meet you with the 4x4safari vehicle, and you will immediately begin your first game drive enroute to your tented camp. Dinner and overnight stay at your camp.

 

Day 2: Full day in Serengeti national park.

On the 2nd day of the safari, you will spend a full day exploring Serengeti. Depending on the time of the year, your Tanzania safari will focus on the most productive areas. If its season for the Great Migration, the drives will concentrate on the river crossings (July to October) or the calving season (January to March) in the south. You will search for the Big five, with guaranteed sightings of the large elephant and buffalo herds, and watch for predator-prey interactions involving lions, cheetahs, and leopards. You will enjoy a picnic lunch. And later continue continue with your game drive and after you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and an overnight stay.

 

Day 3: Hot air ballon (optional) and Western Corridor Exploration.

On the third day of the safari, you will begin your day with an optional Hot Air Balloon Safari (pre-booked and extra cost). This is where you float silently over the plains in the morning and this offers unparalleled view of the Serengeti landscape and then the sprawling herds below, concluding with a celebratory champagne breakfast. The rest of the day is spent on game drives, potentially exploring area like the Western Corridor, famous for its Grumeti River and massive crocodile populations. Later be transferred to your camp for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Serengeti Transition Drive and Conservation Focus.

On the fourth day of the safari, you will enjoy breakfast after breakfast. You will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and then go on the scenic game drive out of the central Serengeti towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). This allows you to explore the transition zones and look for animals unique to this ecosystem. You will then check into your camp or lodge situated near Ngorongoro crater rim, offering spectacular views.

 

Day 5: Descent into the Ngorongoro Crater.

On the fifth day of the safari, this is the highlight of the second half of the trip. After an early breakfast, you will meet your safari guide and you will descend 600 meters (2000 feet) into the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater floor is a natural, self-contained ecosystem that hosts one of the highest densities of the wildlife in Africa, making sightings relatively easy. You will spend a full day exploring the soda lakes, swamps, and then open grasslands, focusing on spotting the endangered Black Rhinoceros, as well as vast herds of wildebeest, zebras and numerous predators. You will have a picnic lunch inside the crater before ascending and returning to your crater rim accommodation. Later you will be transferred to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 6: Olduvai Gorge and Drive to Arusha.

On the sixth day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will depart the Ngorongoro area, driving back toward Arusha. On the way, you will stop at Olduvai Gorge, an important anthropological site often referred to as the “Cradle of Mankind.” Here you will visit the museum and then learn about the earliest evidence of the human ancestors discovered by the Leakey family. The remainder of the afternoon is a scenic drive back to Arusha, where you will check into your final hotel.

Day 7: Departure.

On the last day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred from your hotel to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your scheduled international flight departure that will make your safari come to an end.
