Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Lake Manyara Game drive.
The safari begins with your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris transferring you from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or your hotel in Arusha; he will welcome you and provide a briefing about the safari. After the briefing he will drive you to the west toward the Rift Valley escarpment.
Lake Manyara National Park: After a scenic two-hour drive, you will arrive at Lake Manyara, which is known for its dramatic setting at the base of the Great Rift Valley. You will spend the afternoon on a game drive. This park is famous for its shimmering soda lake, massive flocks of flamingos (seasonal) and its unique population of tree-climbing lions. You will also spot large elephant herds, baboons and diverse birdlife in the groundwater forest. In the afternoon, you will drive up the escarpment and check into your lodge or camp near the Ngorongoro conservation area gate.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Descent.
On the second day of the Tanzania Wildlife safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will meet your safari guide and this day is dedicated to the geological wonder and wildlife powerhouse of the Ngorongoro crater.
The crater experience: Your safari guide will descend 600 meters (2000 feet) into the crater floor. Ngorongoro crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and acts as a self-contained natural bowl with wildlife. You will spend a full day exploring this unique ecosystem, which is home to an estimated 25,000 large mammals.
This is one of the best places in Africa to spot the critically endangered Black Rhinoceros, as well as huge herds of wildebeest, zebras and dangerous predators, including lions and hyenas. Lunch will be a picnic served on the crater floor. After the game drive, you will ascend the crater and return to your lodge near the rim.
Day 3: Scenic drive and departure.
On the final day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will meet your safari guide and then start on your journey to Arusha. This drive is scenic, passing through local villages and agricultural lands, providing a final experience of the Tanzanian life outside the parks. You will be dropped off either at your hotel in Arusha or directly at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your connecting international flight.
